Joel 2:32 And it shall come to pass that everyone who calls on the name of the LORD [Yahweh} shall be saved.
Romans 10: 9 because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
10:13 For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” This is a quote from Joel 2:32 “everyone one who calls on the name of the Yahweh shall be saved”
We are acknowledging that Jesus is Rev. 21:13 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.”
Isaiah 44:6 Thus says the LORD, the King of Israel and his Redeemer, the LORD of hosts: “I am the first and I am the last; besides me there is no god.
The confession is Jesus is the Author of Life (Acts 3:15, Heb. 12:1-2) the Alpha and Omega, the end of the law, the righteousness of God, the Yahweh or LORD of Joel 2:32 who spoke it all into existence “the Word was God” and “the Word became flesh and dwelt among us”(Jn. 1:1&14)” and “all things were made through him (Jn. 1:3)” and “by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible (Col. 3:16).
Anyone who says Jesus was created or not equal with God is basically saying he is not God (Alpha and Omega, Yahweh, Word become flesh) which according to Romans 10:9 is a necessary part of the confession Jesus is Lord!
Another necessary part of the confession that David makes is the “LORD is my shepherd”
He makes me lie down . . . He restores my soul . . . He leads me in paths of righteousness . . .his rod and staff comfort . . . surely goodness and mercy shall follow [Hebrew: radaf - hunt you down] and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
David could only make a good list of the LORD’s work with an eternal consequence of dwelling in his presence forever.
Have you confessed Jesus is LORD! Have you had his goodness and love (mercy - Hebrew chesed) chase you down?
It almost like a Romans 5:8 confession . . .
Romans 5:8 but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Eph. 2:13 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.
far off - Eph. 2:11 “called the uncircumcision” and Eph. 2:12 “alienated from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world.”
John 10:26 but you do not believe because you are not among my sheep. 27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. 28 I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. 29 My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. 30 I and the Father are one.”
Jesus is of the same essence (one Being/Substance) as the Father - not created - fully God (Col. 1:19, Heb. 1:8) as a Shepherd he takes me “who once was a far off” and brings me near and I “listen” (Jn. 10:16) because I am His and He is mine.
